ADAMS CELEBRATES
ASH WEDNESDAY (LENT)
Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. Wednesday, February 18, 2026 - Thursday, April 2, 2026. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. Many know of the tradition of abstaining from meat on Fridays during Lent, but we are also called to practice self-discipline and fast in other ways throughout the season. Contemplate the meaning and origins of the Lenten fasting tradition in this reflection. In addition, the giving of alms is one way to share God's gifts—not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents. In Lent, the baptized are called to renew their baptismal commitment as others prepare to be baptized.

RAMADAN MONTH
Ramadan is a holy month, observed by Muslims all over the world as a time for fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. This year, it’s expected to begin on the evening of Tuesday 17th February or Wednesday 18th February, depending on the moon sighting. During Ramadan, many Muslims abstain from eating and drinking during the daylight hours, breaking their fast at sunset with a meal known as ‘Iftar’.
Greetings of ‘Ramadan Mubarak’ or ‘Ramadan Kareem’, meaning blessed or happy Ramadan, are spoken throughout the month.

ADAMS CELEBRATES
THE CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR
Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Spring Festival, is the most significant 15-day Chinese holiday marking the lunar calendar's new year, beginning in 2026 on February 17 and celebrating the Year of the Horse. It celebrates the arrival of spring, focusing on family reunions, cleaning to remove bad luck, and honoring ancestors.
It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.
At home, families decorate windows with red paper cuttings and adorn doors with couplets expressing auspicious wishes for the new year. Shopping for holiday sundries in open-air markets and cleaning the house are also beloved traditions. The Lunar New Year’s Eve reunion dinner is the highlight that kicks off the holiday, a feast with a spread of symbolic dishes, such as a whole fish representing abundance, that bring good luck and fortune. The fifteenth and final day of the holiday is the Lantern Festival, during which people have tangyuan, or sweet glutinous rice balls, and children carry lanterns around the neighborhood at night to mark the end of the celebration.
Different regions across Asia celebrate Lunar New Year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac. We also acknowledge that many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders do not observe the Chinese/lunar zodiac.

SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
Featured Instructor: Mrs. Emily McGowan-Zajac
The field trip to the DIA and CCS included AP Art & Design, Advanced Drawing & Painting, Drawing & Painting, Advanced Ceramics, and Art Club/NAHS. The field trip was planned for Rochester Adams High School and Stoney Creek High School so our art students could meet each other too. We did a self-guided tour at the DIA in the morning and could have spent the entire day there being inspired. We then went to the College for Creative Studies to see winning artwork by students from the Southeast Michigan & Thumb Art Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the nation’s longest-running recognition program for creative teens and one of the most competitive and prestigious art competitions at the secondary art level.
We had students with Gold Keys and Silver Keys in addition to Honorable Mentions who were able to see their work on display, and we were also able to see Levi Joler’s AP Art & Design portfolio in a separate gallery at CCS. He was awarded a Gold Key and Best of Show portfolio; only five students were awarded Best of Show portfolios, and the other four students are from private art studios and a private school. Seeing these portfolios was especially helpful and inspiring for our AP Art & Design students now and students who hope to join AP Art & Design. Students left full of inspiration and a profound sense of belonging and determination to push their creativity and continue building their art skills for themselves, positively affecting all areas of their lives as well.

AUTHORS IN APRIL
Hello High School Principals & PTSA Presidents,
Authors in April is hoping you can help us spread the word. We are again looking for high school students to introduce this year’s authors at the annual banquet. This is a great opportunity for students to meet authors and give back to a program that they enjoyed in their elementary and middle school years.
I have attached a flyer with all the details and a QR code where students can apply. We would appreciate you sharing this in newsletters, announcements, social media - wherever! You know the best ways to reach your students. If there are TVs in the building that I could make a slide version of this for, let me know, and I’m happy to do that too.
Thank you!

A friendly reminder, families will no longer be required to make appointments to have their Chromebook replaced! Everything can now be done in school, using our ticketing system, Incident IQ.

FAQ
What will be happening to our appointment site?
Can appointments still be made to come to the Admin Building?
Will this process also work for students who need to purchase replacement chargers?
Yes! Your TA knows that students who need to purchase a replacement charger would require them to follow this workflow.
Please note that this process is brand new for everyone, so there will be some growing pains. If you or your building staff notice anything that may need to be tweaked or if you have any questions, please reach out to myself or Lynn ([email protected])
Why are we changing this process?
- Our current process requires all families to come to the Administration Building to swap their Chromebook out for a replacement device.
- This creates long delays for students to complete schoolwork at home
- Families need to make special arrangements to come to the Administration Building, usually resulting in them taking off work.
- Ongoing construction in front of the Administration Building causes confusion & frustration for families trying to get to their appointments
What will the new process look like?
- The student will bring their Chromebook to the Media Center for the TA to inspect for damage
- TA will determine if payment is needed to replace device
- In certain cases, an Elementary TA will swap the device at the building if no payment is needed.
- If payment is needed, an Incident IQ ticket will be created
- TA sends Chromebook to Help Desk @ Admin DQ
- Help Desk assess damage and contacts parent/guardian of damage and cost to replace
- Card Payment Preferred but cash or check option is available
- Once payment is made, Help Desk will send a replacement device to your buildings TA
- TA will receive the device and deliver the device to student/teacher
How will this new process help families & students receive the best support?
- Families will no longer have to make arrangements to come to the Administration Building
- Turnaround time will be faster for students.
FAQ
What will be happening to our appointment site?
- The appointment site will not be going away, I will be working with the site manager to update the site to now have a page to let them know of the new way to get their student’s device repaired.
Can appointments still be made to come to the Admin Building?
- Yes! Appointments will still be available on the same days of the week at the same times. We understand that parents/guardians prefer to come in person, rather than have everything done through email/on the phone. We also understand that some parents/guardians may have availability in their schedule to take care of this faster than the new workflow.
