FALL STATE TESTING (PSAT/NMSQT) INFORMATION
Dear Highlanders,
The PSAT/NMSQT is administered to 11th-grade students throughout the State of Michigan each year during the fall. In Rochester Community Schools this will take place on Wednesday, October 18th. Below is information for the testing schedule for 11th-grade students and the late arrival procedures for all other high school students (9th, 10th, and 12th grade).
Please note that the PSAT/NMSQT is part of the College Board SAT Suite of Assessments and will be the best preparation for our 11th-grade students when they take the SAT in the spring. This will also be the first test administration for the College Board that is completely digital. To support this transition, we will be providing information and practice opportunities ahead of time to prepare our students. Please be on the lookout for future communications.
Testing is scheduled at Adams, Rochester, Stoney Creek, and the Schultz Campus (ACE/Virtual Campus).

- Transportation will be provided via assigned bus routes for eligible students who require busing. 11th graders who are testing will utilize their normal bus schedule for pick-up times.
- Bus pick-up times for eligible 9th, 10th, and 12th graders will be 3 hours and 45 minutes later than their usual scheduled time.
- Busing to OSTC will not be provided for students. OSTC students who are 11th graders are required to come to school for the PSAT test.
- OSTC students who are not testing will be exempt from OSTC if they are unable to drive to the site.
- Students will be required to bring their own #2 pencil and calculator.
- Buses will drop off students prior to 11:15 a.m. for the second half of the day. Students will remain in the café until classes begin at 11:50 a.m.
- Lunch will be available for all students.
- Room assignments and other test-related details for students will be released closer to the test date.
- School-issued Chromebook and charger. Your Chromebook must be fully charged when you arrive for testing. You cannot use a personal device for this test.
- Photo ID: school ID or Driver's license is acceptable
- Pencils: no. 2 sharpened NON mechanical pencils
- Calculator: optional (there is a calculator included in the digital test, but you are welcome to bring your handheld calculator if you prefer using that)
- Snack/water: optional but strongly recommended to bring for break
- Personal items including bags and phones will NOT be permitted in the testing room. Students should utilize their lockers or cars on test days to store personal items. If a phone or other prohibited item (such as a smart watch) is brought into the testing room, it will need to be turned off and kept in the front of the classroom with the teacher for the entirety of the testing period.

The safety and security of all students and staff at Adams High is always a top priority. To help us in these efforts, please see the information below:
- During Arrival students can enter through 3 entrances, Main (Door 1), Athletics (Door 22), and Highlander Highway (Door 10). All external doors will be locked at 7:30 AM.
- Campus will remain closed throughout the school day. All grades will have lunch on campus.
- Students are NOT to utilize fast food delivery services. For example, DoorDash, GrubHub, Instacart, or Uber Eats, etc. for food delivery.
- If students are traveling to other campuses throughout the day, they are asked to check out of AHS in the Attendance Office and check back in when they return.
- Students are encouraged to utilize their assigned lockers to minimize their belongings in the classroom.
- If you see something, say something. Please report all safety and security concerns to the Main Office Staff or to Deputy Dan Prachar.
PARKING PASSES
All students who park on campus must have a parking pass on file and that pass must be on display in your car to park in any AHS parking lots. Oakland County Sheriff’s and administrators have begun patrolling our lots as of, Monday, September 25, 2023. Cars without passes can and will be ticketed.
Parking passes are still available for purchase throughout the 2023-2024 school year. See: Mrs. Kari Dennis for parking passes in the Assistant Principal’s Office.

9th - 12th GRADES:
The RCS College & Career Fair is Tuesday, Oct. 17th, 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Stoney Creek High School. This is a fantastic opportunity for students and parents to learn about post-high school options, meet college admissions representatives, and gather great information. Don't miss it! See the attached flier below for more details.
SENIORS: COLLEGE APP. INFO.
Counselors met with all seniors on Thursday, September 7th. Seniors were given their transcripts for review, and counselors explained the process for applying to college, sending transcripts, sending test scores, searching for scholarships, etc. All of the information is posted to the seniors’ AHS Class of 2024 Google Classroom. It is important for them to keep checking the Google Classroom for pertinent information, as we will post throughout the year. Additionally, detailed information for seniors regarding college applications, transcript ordering, the Common Application, and more can be found on the Senior Weebly.
Individual Senior Meetings: Over the next month, counselors will send passes to each senior to meet and discuss post-graduation plans, college applications, etc. Additionally, students are welcome to stop by the Counseling Office to ask questions or schedule a meeting with their counselor. Students are able to email their counselors with questions at any time as well. During this season of post high school planning, students are encouraged to take ownership of the process/steps toward their future, as they will be navigating life on their own soon:)
Transcripts: Students order transcripts via www.Parchment.com . This process was explained to seniors on Sept. 7th, and seniors created their Parchment accounts. Our Registrar will begin releasing transcripts from Parchment to colleges after Sept. 7th.
MICHIGAN COLLEGE MONTH APPLICATION FEE WAIVERS: Many MI colleges waive application fees in October. See the attached flier below for details.
SENIORS & JUNIORS: COLLEGE ADMISSIONS REP. VISITS
Juniors and seniors can sign up for meetings with college admissions representatives HERE. These meetings give students the most pertinent, up-to-date information about colleges and admissions information. The representatives who visit Adams are the representatives who review our students’ applications, so this is a unique opportunity that we’d like to see more students accessing!
SENIORS & JUNIORS: Xello Meetings
Counselors recently visited senior and junior English classrooms. We shared pertinent information with students regarding upcoming dates, things they can expect and work on for post-high school planning, and more. Also, we discussed career exploration, and assisted them in using Xello to complete their state-required EDP’s and to explore career and college/training options.
JUNIORS: Free Practice Digital SAT Test
Princeton Review is offering a free practice SAT test for all RCS juniors. It will be given in the new digital format. The test will take place on Election Day, which is a day off for students: Tuesday, Nov. 7th 11:00-1:30 at Rochester High School. Please see the attached flier for details and the registration link for Adams juniors.
SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: OSTC
For 10th & 11th grade students interested in a program at OSTC next school year, please see the attached fliers below about information nights. Also, the online application for the 24-25 school year is open: www.OSTConline.com
AP TEST REGISTRATION:
The AP Registration sign-up process is live and will run through October 30th. Please see the attached flier below to sign up and pay for your student’s AP tests. Students must submit their proof of payment to Mrs. Snook in the counseling office by October 31st, 2023, or they will not have an exam ordered.
If you are scheduled to take a semester 2 only AP class next semester (i.e. AP Macroeconomics), registration for that exam will open during semester 2. Please hold off on registering for any semester 2 only test at this time.

“Paying for College” FAFSA/Financial Aid Info. Night:
There are changes being made to the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year that will affect many of our students. We have partnered with Oakland University to provide an educational presentation on FAFSA and the changes that have been implemented. The new FAFSA will be available sometime in December. We welcome you to join our virtual “Paying for College” presentation on November 27th at 6:30 pm.
Students and their families are encouraged to join this live virtual presentation to learn information regarding college financial aid. This information is useful no matter what college or university students plan to attend. Topics include the elements of financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), sources of financial aid, private resources available, and more!

WORK PERMITS
You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the vestibule outside of the main office.
Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 years old).
Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring it back to AHS to be completed. If a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit. Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

SENIOR YEARBOOK PORTRAITS
Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2024,
All seniors for the class of 2024 will need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook and inclusion on the class composite.
If you missed the June and July dates at Adams, there is one more session for seniors at Adams High School on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM in the media center!
You will have to schedule your sitting for this date using the following link:

The special no-charge yearbook session will be available along with other sessions and upgrade options. If you do schedule your senior picture session, do so in the summer. All seniors should have their senior portraits taken by Saturday, November 11th. Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 25, 2023.
If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo.
Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc.
All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire or need more information regarding attire, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
Students who do not get their yearbook photo taken with Prestige by the deadline will not appear in the senior section of the yearbook or the class composite.

MICHIGAN SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAM
The Michigan School Meals program will offer universal free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year for all public school students in transitional kindergarten through high school and preschoolers in the Great Start Readiness Program. Families are not required to apply for free school meals. All students are automatically eligible every school day. Families in need are still encouraged to complete an application for benefits to qualify for additional community resources. The form used in previous years was the Free and Reduced Meal Price Application.

The District Chromebook Troubleshooting website is now live (See below). It has the most common problems that students are experiencing and how they can try to fix them. We are hoping that this will get students back to work a little quicker.

RAHCC RECRUITINGThe Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition (RAHCC) Youth Action Council is looking for middle and high school students to volunteer for community events all year long. Students will gain leadership skills, earn community service hours and help make a difference. The RAHCC supports mental health, builds awareness about substance misuse, and encourages healthy lifestyle choices through programming in the schools and throughout the community. The Rochester Mountain Bike Team is entering the home stretch, winning their fifth consecutive high school composite trophy at Lakeshore Park in Novi over the weekend. After Saturday’s rain, our riders competed on a technically challenging course requiring nonstop concentration, speed, and agility. The team brought home six medals, including another three first place finishes, and a record fifteen team riders placed in the top ten in their categories! Adams Junior Abby Weaver placed first in JV Female and leads the series points. Congratulations Abby! We encourage the Adams community to come out to the West Branch Picnic Area at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township and racing starts at 8:45 AM this Sunday, October 15th to cheer the team on in their effort to secure their first overall state championship title, starting with Varsity at 8:45 am. Good luck to all our racers!
