SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
Special Guest: Melissa McCann
The AP Statistics classes just completed their unit on two-variable data with a surprising theme - Barbie.
We spent the unit collecting and analyzing data to give Barbie the most exciting, but safe, bungee jump possible. First, students learned how to analyze data, then they collected data from their own bungees made of different numbers of rubber bands. Students analyzed their own data, chose the model that best fit their data, and used that model to predict how many rubber bands would be needed to allow Barbie to have the most thrilling, but still safe, bungee jump from 15 feet, 5 inches above a surface.
The AP Statistics student constructed their rubber band bungees and tested their predictions, with each Barbie from jumping from the railing toward the bottom of the ramp. One Barbie lost a head and another may have stress fractures in her wrists, but everyone else had fun seeing which group had the best prediction.

SENIORS: College Application Info.
Counselors met with all seniors on Thursday, September 5th. Seniors were given their transcripts for review, and counselors explained the process for applying to college, sending transcripts, sending test scores, searching for scholarships, etc. All information is posted on the seniors’ AHS Class of 2025 Google Classroom. It is important for them to keep checking the Google Classroom for pertinent information, as we will post throughout the year. Additionally, information for seniors regarding college applications, transcript ordering, the Common Application, and more can be found on the Senior Weebly.
Individual Senior Meetings: Over the next couple months, counselors will send passes to each senior to meet and discuss post-graduation plans, college applications, etc. Additionally, students are welcome to stop by the Counseling Office to ask questions or schedule a meeting with their counselor. Students are able to email their counselors with questions at any time as well. During this season of post high school planning, students are encouraged to take ownership of the process/steps toward their future, as they will be navigating life on their own soon.
Transcripts: Students order transcripts via www.Parchment.com . This process was explained to seniors on Sept. 5th, and they created a Parchment account.
MICHIGAN COLLEGE MONTH Application Fee Waivers: Many MI colleges waive application fees in October. See attached flier for details.
SENIORS & JUNIORS: College Admissions Rep. Visits
Juniors and seniors can sign up for meetings with college admissions representatives HERE. These meetings give students the most pertinent, up-to-date information about colleges and admissions information. The representatives who visit Adams are the same representatives who review our students’ applications, so this is a unique opportunity for our seniors!
Financial Aid / FAFSA Information:
If you were unable to attend the Oct. 8th Financial Aid/FAFSA presentation, you can access presentations on the OU Financial Aid Events website HERE.
Work Permits:
You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the main office. Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 years old). Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring it back to AHS to be completed. If a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit. Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

SENIOR CLASS PORTRAITS
Dear Seniors, Parents, and Guardians,
Senior portraits are available to take at Adams High School in the media center on November 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.!
Please use the link below to schedule online for the November 2nd senior portrait sitting at Adams.
https://schedule.prestigeportraits.com/schedule/home.html?MI&Rochester%20Hills
Once on the site, scroll to the bottom to search for the school using the (state/school's city).
Select Adams High School, and then search for your student name. If your name does not appear, you will need to call 1-800-736-4775 and someone from our customer care team will schedule a time for you.
This will be the last open session. If you can’t make it to this sitting, you must contact Prestige for an in-studio sitting.
To schedule an in-studio senior session, visit https://local.prestigeportraits.com/. The special no-charge yearbook session will be available along with other sessions and upgrade options.
All seniors for the Class of 2025 will need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook and inclusion on the class composite. Also, these photos are placed in the Adams High School Honors Convocation and Graduation Programs.
All seniors should have their senior portraits taken by Saturday, November 11th. Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 25, 2024.
If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo. Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc.
All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire or need more information regarding attire, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
Students who do not get their yearbook photo taken with Prestige by the deadline will not appear in the senior section of the yearbook or the class composite.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
SENIOR ALL NIGHT PARTY
2024 GALLERY OF EXCELLENCE
Congratulations Rochester Adams High School Yearbook Staff!
Rochester Adams’s 2024 Yearbook is the recipient of the Gallery of Excellence. Your yearbook has joined the showcase of the best yearbooks published by Walsworth Publishing Company. Only a small percentage of the yearbooks we publish are included in this prestigious collection.
The WPC Gallery books feature superior examples of coverage, design, photography, and copy. Our yearbook sales representatives take Gallery books to schools and their workshops as examples and idea generators. These books are also displayed at regional, state, and national conventions and workshops. Covers, spreads, photos, and coverage ideas are also sometimes used as examples in Walsworth’s educational materials, such as our posters, Blueprint booklet, the Possibilities idea book, and the Idea file magazine.
The induction of your yearbook honors your staff’s exceptional work and dedication to excellence.
We are proud to have your school as one of Michigan’s 2024 best publications.
