SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
Special Guest: Coach Mark MacFarland
Part 2 Series - The project the kids are working on in HuG (AP Human Geography) is called the “Vinyl Album Music Mix”. The students are finding song lyrics that connect to issues we have studied in our “Population and Migration” unit. The requirements of the project include creating an album cover, including a PSA about population and migration, and of course, describing how the lyrics chosen are a commentary about important issues in our class! Grand finale!
Let's go, Highlanders!

Please take a look at the attached diagram (below) for a visual reference. This map is provided by our Administration about Drop Off/Pick up Loop information. To ensure the safety of students and staff, drop off and pick up is not permitted in the auditorium or athletic parking lots. Our hope is that all students and parents arrive and depart safely each school day. Thank you for your partnership in this area.

SENIORS: College Application Info.
Counselors met with all seniors on Thursday, September 5th. Seniors were given their transcripts for review, and counselors explained the process for applying to college, sending transcripts, sending test scores, searching for scholarships, etc. All information is posted on the seniors’ AHS Class of 2025 Google Classroom. It is important for them to keep checking the Google Classroom for pertinent information, as we will post throughout the year. Additionally, information for seniors regarding college applications, transcript ordering, the Common Application, and more can be found on the Senior Weebly.
Individual Senior Meetings: Counselors have held individual meetings with each senior to discuss post-graduation plans, college applications, etc. Additionally, students are welcome to stop by the Counseling Office to ask questions or schedule a meeting with their counselor. Students are able to email their counselors with questions at any time as well. During this season of post high school planning, students are encouraged to take ownership of the process/steps toward their future, as they will be navigating life on their own soon.
Transcripts: Students order transcripts via www.Parchment.com . This process was explained to seniors on Sept. 5th, and they created a Parchment account.
Financial Aid / FAFSA Information:
If you were unable to attend the Oct. 8th Financial Aid/FAFSA presentation, you can access presentations on the OU Financial Aid Events website HERE.
The 2025-2026 FAFSA form will be available HERE on or before December 1, 2024.
Xello/EDP Meetings:
Counselors have been visiting English classrooms this fall to share pertinent information with students regarding upcoming dates, things they can expect and work on for post-high school planning, and more. Also, we discuss career exploration, and assist them in using Xello to complete their state-required EDP’s and to explore career and college/training options. Your student’s Xello account is always available for them to continue career exploration anytime they’d like. Our final Xello/EDP meetings will be with 9th graders on Nov. 19 & 20.
Work Permits:
You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the main office. Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 years old). Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring it back to AHS to be completed. If a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit. Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

SENIOR CLASS PORTRAITS
Dear Seniors, Parents, and Guardians,
Senior portraits are available to take at Adams High School in the media center on November 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.!
Please use the link below to schedule online for the November 2nd senior portrait sitting at Adams.
https://schedule.prestigeportraits.com/schedule/home.html?MI&Rochester%20Hills
Once on the site, scroll to the bottom to search for the school using the (state/school's city).
Select Adams High School, and then search for your student name. If your name does not appear, you will need to call 1-800-736-4775 and someone from our customer care team will schedule a time for you.
This will be the last open session. If you can’t make it to this sitting, you must contact Prestige for an in-studio sitting.
To schedule an in-studio senior session, visit https://local.prestigeportraits.com/. The special no-charge yearbook session will be available along with other sessions and upgrade options.
All seniors for the Class of 2025 will need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook and inclusion on the class composite. Also, these photos are placed in the Adams High School Honors Convocation and Graduation Programs.
All seniors should have their senior portraits taken by Saturday, November 11th. Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 25, 2024.
If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo. Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc.
All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire or need more information regarding attire, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
Students who do not get their yearbook photo taken with Prestige by the deadline will not appear in the senior section of the yearbook or the class composite.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
