THE HIGHLANDER MARCHING BAND
PERFORMS IN THE
DETROIT THANKSGIVING PARADE!
Next Thursday on Thanksgiving, the Highlander Marching Band will be in the nationally televised Detroit Thanksgiving Parade for the first time in school history. Our estimated time to be on tv is approximately at 11am if you would like to tune into to see us.
Also, there will be a battle of the bands vote on clickondetroit.com next week when it becomes live. Vote for the Adams band when you get a chance!

GREASE THE MUSICAL!
The Adams Performing Arts Department is excited to announce the 2024 Spring Musical, Grease The Musical. There is an informational meeting and musical workshop on November 29th from 2:45 to 3:45 in the choir room. There is also a dance workshop on November 30th in the rehearsal room from 3 to 4.
Musical auditions will be on Wednesday, December 6th, from 3 to 5:30, with callbacks on Thursday, December 7th, beginning at 3 pm.

The safety and security of all students and staff at Adams High is always a top priority. To help us in these efforts, please see the information below:
- During Arrival students can enter through 3 entrances, Main (Door 1), Athletics (Door 22), and Highlander Highway (Door 10). All external doors will be locked at 7:30 AM.
- Campus will remain closed throughout the school day. All grades will have lunch on campus.
- Students are NOT to utilize fast food delivery services. For example, DoorDash, GrubHub, Instacart, or Uber Eats, etc. for food delivery.
- If students are traveling to other campuses throughout the day, they are asked to check out of AHS in the Attendance Office and check back in when they return.
- Students are encouraged to utilize their assigned lockers to minimize their belongings in the classroom.
- If you see something, say something. Please report all safety and security concerns to the Main Office Staff or to Deputy Dan Prachar.
PARKING PASSES
All students who park on campus must have a parking pass on file and that pass must be on display in your car to park in any AHS parking lots. Oakland County Sheriff’s and administrators have begun patrolling our lots as of, Monday, September 25, 2023. Cars without passes can and will be ticketed.
Parking passes are still available for purchase throughout the 2023-2024 school year. See: Mrs. Kari Dennis for parking passes in the Assistant Principal’s Office.

COUNSELING DEPARTMENT

SENIORS: COLLEGE APP. INFO.
Counselors met with all seniors in a large group and individually. Seniors were given their transcripts for review, and counselors explained the process for applying to college, sending transcripts, sending test scores, searching for scholarships, etc. All of the information is posted to the seniors’ AHS Class of 2024 Google Classroom. It is important for them to keep checking the Google Classroom for pertinent information, as we will post throughout the year. Additionally, detailed information for seniors regarding college applications, transcript ordering, the Common Application, and more can be found on the Senior Weebly.
Transcripts: Students order transcripts via www.Parchment.com . This process was explained to seniors on Sept. 7th, and seniors created their Parchment accounts.
SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS: OSTC
On Nov. 8th, Randy Maddock, the OSTC counselor, spoke to all sophomores about the programs available at OSTC. Students were given information to take home, and there is information posted on their Google Classrooms. For more information, please see the attached fliers about information nights. Also, the online application for the 24-25 school year is open here: www.OSTConline.com. Some programs fill up very quickly, so don’t delay applying.
“Paying for College” FAFSA/Financial Aid Info. Night:
There are changes being made to the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year that will affect many of our students. We have partnered with Oakland University to provide an educational presentation on FAFSA and the changes that have been implemented. The new FAFSA will be available sometime in December. We welcome you to join our virtual “Paying for College” presentation on November 27th at 6:30 pm.
Students and their families are encouraged to join this live virtual presentation to learn information regarding college financial aid. This information is useful no matter what college or university students plan to attend. Topics include the elements of financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), sources of financial aid, private resources available, and more!

Career Exploration/EDP’s:
Counselors met with sophomores, juniors and seniors for career exploration and state-required EDP completion. We’ll meet with freshmen at the end of November. We shared pertinent information with students regarding upcoming dates, things they can expect and work on for post-high school planning, and more. Also, we discussed career exploration, and assisted them in using Xello to complete their state-required EDP’s and to explore career and college/training options. Your student’s Xello account is always available for them to continue career exploration anytime they’d like.
WORK PERMITS
You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the vestibule outside of the main office.
Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 years old).
Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring it back to AHS to be completed. If a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit. Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS)
NHS members would like to give Mr. Beukema a warm Highlander welcome as their new NHS advisor. Mrs. Carlson and Mrs. Gemellaro are proud and excited to pass along the NHS advisor torch of scholarship, leadership, service, and character to Mr. Beukema.
NHS T-Shirt Distribution: All members should have received a new NHS T-shirt this week. These shirts are expected to be worn during membership volunteering.
Volunteer & Community Hours: Officers post weekly with volunteer opportunities on google classroom. If you are in-need of membership hours go to the classroom for sign up opportunities.
Leadership Project: After members complete their leadership project, their leadership project form is due the following week.

SENIOR YEARBOOK PORTRAITS
Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2024,
All seniors for the class of 2024 will need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook and inclusion on the class composite.
If you missed the session for seniors at Adams High School on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM in the media center, you will have to schedule your personal sitting at a Prestige studio. See the below link!

All seniors should have their senior portraits taken by Saturday, November 11th. Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 25, 2023.
If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo.
Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc.
All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire or need more information regarding attire, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
Students who do not get their yearbook photo taken with Prestige by the deadline will not appear in the senior section of the yearbook or the class composite.

- This physical MUST BE SIGNED BY A DOCTOR and uploaded to your Final Forms account. Please make sure you and your student athlete have signed all forms where signatures are needed in final forms.
- Your student athlete will have a red icon if something is not filled out.

Rochester Mountain Bike Team – 2023 Season Recap
For the first time in its 5-year history, the Rochester Mountain Bike Team won the Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association (MiSCA) state championship title in the composite high school category, with an impressive sweep of all six races in the series. Adams Junior Abby Weaver won the State Championship title for Junior Varsity Female with four wins and two 2nd place finishes.

2023 RMBT at-a-glance:
MiSCA, founded in 2010, is comprised of 23 high school, middle school, and elementary racing teams from across lower Michigan, with nearly 1,200 student athletes competing in the fall race series, making it one of the largest youth mountain bike race leagues in the country. Students racing in MiSCA earn USA Cycling points, which allows them to qualify for and compete in nationally sanctioned races.

Gift of Life Challenge:
The Adams HOSA (Healthcare Occupations Students of America) Club is thrilled to participate in the Gift of Life Challenge, an exciting project where we will be advocating for organ donation and transplantation. Through a multitude of activities, we strive to educate our community about the significance of organ donation and the true difference each donor provides: the gift of life.

MICHIGAN SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAM
The Michigan School Meals program will offer universal free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year for all public school students in transitional kindergarten through high school and preschoolers in the Great Start Readiness Program. Families are not required to apply for free school meals. All students are automatically eligible every school day. Families in need are still encouraged to complete an application for benefits to qualify for additional community resources. The form used in previous years was the Free and Reduced Meal Price Application.
The new form is the Application for Summer EBT and Education Benefits for Michigan School Meals Program, which may entitle students to benefits, discounts and waivers including:

- Other assistance and resources through charitable organizations

Parents can obtain login information via ParentVUE for their students in all grades and programs. Please note that students in grades 6-12 are able to change their own passwords and ParentVUE will only display the initial password.

The District Chromebook Troubleshooting website is now live (See below). It has the most common problems that students are experiencing and how they can try to fix them. We are hoping that this will get students back to work a little quicker.
PLEASE NOTE: We have taken down the RCS Tech Support Ticket site. If a student needs help with their Chromebook, they should look at the troubleshooting site first. If they can’t fix it from the information on that page, they can make an appointment to swap out their Chromebook or they can call Technology Services (number is on the Troubleshooting page).

RAHCC RECRUITINGThe Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition (RAHCC) Youth Action Council is looking for middle and high school students to volunteer for community events all year long. Students will gain leadership skills, earn community service hours and help make a difference. The RAHCC supports mental health, builds awareness about substance misuse, and encourages healthy lifestyle choices through programming in the schools and throughout the community.
