November 13, 2020
On Wednesday, November 11th, we honored our Veterans and Active Duty personnel with our abbreviated version of Veterans Day! In previous years our Adams' students have placed 1500 flags at the corner of Adams and Tienken and hosted a breakfast with Veterans, Active Duty personnel and their families where students would visit with them, thank them for their service and listen to their experiences.
This year we thank our PTSA Legislative Committee Student Co-Chairs for continuing our time honored tradition in honoring our military personnel.

Rochester Community Schools, in compliance with Michigan State law, offers an opportunity to earn high school credit by taking an examination for a course that the student has not been enrolled in. MHSAA PHYSICAL EXAM UPDATES
In light of the COVID-19 situation, there has been an adjustment to the standard process for physical exams.
If a student received a sports physical exam during the 2019-20 school year (one completed on or after April 15, 2019) and it is on file with the athletic office, they only must complete the MHSAA Health Questionnaire Form for 2020-21 to become eligible to begin practicing. Once turned into the athletic office, this will serve as their valid physical exam for the entire 2020-21 school year.
If the students answer "yes" to any of the 14 questions listed on the Health Questionnaire, or does not have an exam on file with the school from the 2019-20 school year, the student will need a new sports physical exam (MHSAA Physical Exam Form) for 2020-21. If uncertain, please contact the athletic office to confirm the physical exam from 2019-20 is on file.

A NOTE FROM KIM KELLY - PTSA PRESIDENT
Hello Highlanders! Please join us for the November PTSA meeting via zoom On Tuesday, November 17th at 9:30 am by clicking the following link at that time: https://rochester-k12-mi-us.zoom.us/j/95955918900?pwd=TlR5dTZ3amdNN2luOXNzL2RnbTViQT09. We will have updates from Administration, Counseling and Student Council, as well as PTSA updates. The Agenda will be posted on the Membership Toolkit this weekend.
We are still in need of STEAM parent and student participation in online events. We are one of only 2 schools without a STEAM chair this year, so if you are willing to assist, please contact Kate Bass at [email protected]. Because in-person gatherings are on hold, we also need students to film videos of science experiments to get elementary school kids excited about science and/or film interviews with individuals in STEAM related careers to share in a virtual career fair. Please email Kate if you’re interested. Please contact [email protected] if you’re interested in more information.
Thank you to our legislative committee for decorating the school with flags and signs and sending emails to Veterans in the community on Veterans Day. It was a fitting tribute to the brave men and women who choose to serve our Country. Have a wonderful weekend!

ROCHESTER COMMUNITY SCHOOLS PRESENTS CULTURAL
AWARENESS & OBSERVANCES CALENDAR
Rochester Community Schools recently developed the Cultural Awareness & Observances Calendar for educators. The purpose of this calendar is to raise awareness about the many events, cultural practices and traditions in history and in present day. This calendar also honors past and present members of our world who have contributed to social justice and reform. This calendar is intended to serve as a tool to educate and promote understanding for the individual, group, culture or cause, not to trivialize. This calendar may prompt you to seek to learn more and share your findings with others.
Each month, AHS will feature the current months calendar in News and Notes. Please note this calendar is by no means a finite list of significant dates.
