SPOTLIGHT ON INSTRUCTION
Special Guest: Yingming Wu

Around 130 students from the RCS Chinese classes participated in the Comerica Bank Field Trip on February 3rd where the students not only enjoyed the traditional tea ceremony, Chinese Gu Zen, and Er Hu music and instruments but also learned a lot about advanced security technology. The administrators from the bank also gave all students a face-to-face speech. They shared their leadership background, vision, and passion. Students were very impressed by their passionate and humorous speeches. The purpose of this field trip is to help the students understand that learning the Chinese language and culture is a tool to open up a global perspective. Because we all believe that a multi-lingual society may foster diversity, respect for others, and greater opportunities for all students.

Thank you for Comerica Bank offering such a wonderful field trip opportunity for our Chinese students today. Thank you Mrs. Harrison and Mrs. Li for chaperoning today.

REPORTING ATTENDANCE

Picture
Log in to ParentVue at rcsvue.rochester.k12.mi.us/

Note: Our students’ attendance matters to us. We want and expect them to be here as much as possible. We value their presence, and their academic success is dependent on it. Organized or coordinated absences from school are not endorsed by Rochester Community Schools, for example “Senior Skip Days”.  Students who decide to take part in these events will be responsible for all missed work and assessments that occur on that day. Teachers will be continuing instruction as normal.

CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

Picture
Rochester Community Schools remains proud of our students who seek opportunities to contribute to a diverse, interdependent and changing world. This past year, high school students from across the district formed a student-led club called the Black Student Union. In celebration of Black History Month, one of the Black Student Union’s first projects included filming a four-part video series that highlights students, staff and community members as they share their reflections about Black culture and experiences. Each week during the month of February, we will be sharing one video from the series.

SHERIFF MIKE BOUCHARD UPDATES!

Oakland County Sheriff, Mike Bouchard, is asking all Oakland County school districts to show the attached school safety video to all students.

The content in the video link below covers two important areas:

1)If you see something, say something – Asking all students to report anything that makes them uncomfortable, scared or unsafe.
2)Inappropriate messages (verbal, written or social media) will be investigated and prosecuted – Reminding all students to be mindful of what they say and post. Inappropriate messages that scare people are against the law.
