SENIOR YEARBOOK PORTRAIT INFORMATION
Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2023,
All seniors for the class of 2023 need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook, as well as on the class composite. Students must have their yearbook photo taken by November 5, 2022 in studio (see address below).
Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 24, 2022. If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo. There is nothing else that the student (or parent) needs to do in order to appear in the yearbook or on the class composite.
Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well. For instance, if you complete your session by 9/3/2022, you’ll receive $10 off the Standard session or higher.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc. All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire, need more information regarding attire, or need help with transportation to the studio, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].
Please call 248-377-2444 or go online at http://www.prestigeportraits.com/studio and make a senior portrait appointment as soon as possible. Although the deadline to be photographed is November 5, 2022, appointments fill quickly.
Students who do not get their yearbook photo taken with Prestige by the deadline will not appear in the senior section of the yearbook.

NOTES FROM KIM KELLY - PTSA President
Hello Highlanders and Future Highlanders!
We made it through the year and finished strong with an amazing graduation ceremony and Senior All Night Party. We are so proud of our students and faculty for the hard work and resilience they showed in the past few years. Our partnership has made a difference for all Highlanders this year, granting teachers items for classroom materials, providing student co-chairs the finding they needed to facilitate projects and we can’t wait for the debut of the new student relaxation gathering area in a previously underused section of the counseling center. The room was designed with help from our Interior Design classes and the AP art students will have a part in decorating next year as well. The space will be a calming retreat for students looking to catch up on homework, relax with a friend, have lunch, play a game or just chill. We are also excited about our student-led pollinator garden which will double as a remembrance garden for Highlanders we have lost.
Look for the online registration packet in August to sign up for volunteer opportunities, join the PTSA and contribute to our One and Done fundraiser which funds our programs for the year. A strong PTSA means more advocacy for all students and the collaboration and funding for programs that benefit them. We are grateful for our community and wish you all a safe and healthy summer!

LGBTQ+ PRIDE MONTH - GSA
June 1st officially marks the first day of Pride month, an annual month-long observance of LGBTQ+ history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. LGBTQ+ Pride Month was created originally as a celebration each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The first Pride march in New York City was held on June 28, 1970, on the first anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. President Bill Clinton officially declared June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month in 2000 and President Barack Obama expanded the observance in 2011 to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.
Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia, and concerts. LGBTQ+ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world. In Michigan, we in Rochester are also fortunate to have an annual pride celebration each year. It is also common for memorials to be held during this month for those members of the community who have been lost to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.
Pride Month is a time for people to feel pride and love within themselves, as well as celebrate those in their lives who have been supportive of them. Pride is also a time for us to reflect on the progress we've made towards LGBTQ+ equality and to acknowledge the fact that we stand on the shoulders of all those who have fought so hard over the years to achieve this. It is also a time for us to acknowledge that we still have so much more to do. The GSA wishes everyone a very happy Pride month and is always educating, advocating, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

ATTENTION JUNIOR PARENTS - IMPORTANT COLLEGE INFORMATION
Counselors met with all juniors this week to discuss the college application process. Students were given a College Tip Sheet (linked HERE) with information regarding the process.
Information and suggestions for summer:
· Clean up social media accounts and make sure your email address is appropriate. Create a new account, if needed.
· Clean up your work space and room at home, so you are organized for the college application process.
· Get a job and save some money.
· Develop a plan for keeping all your online college and scholarship account logins and passwords organized and accessible.
· Research colleges, talk with people, join mailing lists, etc. to keep building your list.
· Make time for college visits/tours/open houses.
· Many colleges are “test optional” for admissions, meaning they do not require an SAT or ACT score. However, if you want or need to send a score, take an ACT or SAT. If you missed the spring tests, you could sign up for an early fall test now and study over the summer. If you have a score you’re ready to send, you send it via www.collegeboard.org or www.act.org .
· Most applications open August 1st, so you may begin working on them. It’s especially wise to begin drafting your college essays (if you have them) over the summer if possible! This can save you time in the fall.
· Transcripts will not be available for college applications until mid-September, after you’ve had a chance to review your transcript and hear more details about the process from counselors.
· Create a www.parchment.com account so you are ready to send transcripts in the fall.
· Look up your AP scores in July, and then explore the potential credit awarded at your college of interest.
