Note: Our students’ attendance matters to us. We want and expect them to be here as much as possible. We value their presence, and their academic success is dependent on it. Organized or coordinated absences from school are not endorsed by Rochester Community Schools, for example “Senior Skip Days”. Students who decide to take part in these events will be responsible for all missed work and assessments that occur on that day. Teachers will be continuing instruction as normal.

The safety and security of all students and staff at Adams High is always a top priority. To help us in these efforts, please see the information below:
- During Arrival students can enter through 3 entrances, Main (Door 1), Athletics (Door 22), and Highlander Highway (Door 10). All external doors will be locked at 7:30 AM.
- Campus will remain closed throughout the school day. All grades will have lunch on campus.
- Students are NOT to utilize fast food delivery services. For example, DoorDash, GrubHub, Instacart, or Uber Eats, etc. for food delivery.
- If students are traveling to other campuses throughout the day, they are asked to check out of AHS in the Attendance Office and check back in when they return.
- Students are encouraged to utilize their assigned lockers to minimize their belongings in the classroom.
- If you see something, say something. Please report all safety and security concerns to the Main Office Staff or to Deputy Dan Prachar.
PARKING PASSES
ALL STUDENTS!
Parking Passes will be distributed in the cafeteria during lunch and after school starting on Monday, Sept. 11th.
The schedule for pick up will be:
Monday, September 11th – Seniors Only
Tuesday, September 12th – Juniors Only
Wednesday, September 13th – Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores
Starting on Thursday, Sept. 14th, students can come to the front office to pick up their parking pass.
Once passes are distributed, you must have a parking pass on file and that pass must be on display in your car to park in our lots. Cars without passes can be ticketed. Oakland County Sheriff’s and administrators will be patrolling our lots in the coming weeks.
Parking passes are still available for purchase throughout the 2023-2024 school year. See: Mrs. Kari Harma-Dennis for parking passes in the Assistant Principal’s Office.

In Mrs. McGowan's AP Art & Design class, students are learning how to meet and exceed expectations as a team with minimal resources (Newspaper, tape, and scissors) to create an outstanding fashion design. Miss Gia Andonyan along with her team won the competition!

SENIORS: COLLEGE APP. INFO.
Counselors met with all seniors on Thursday, September 7th. Seniors were given their transcripts for review, and counselors explained the process for applying to college, sending transcripts, sending test scores, searching for scholarships, etc. All of the information is posted to the seniors’ AHS Class of 2024 Google Classroom. It is important for them to keep checking the Google Classroom for pertinent information, as we will post throughout the year. Additionally, detailed information for seniors regarding college applications, transcript ordering, the Common Application, and more can be found on the Senior Weebly.
Individual Senior Meetings: Over the next couple months, counselors will send passes to each senior to meet and discuss post-graduation plans, college applications, etc. Additionally, students are welcome to stop by the Counseling Office to ask questions or schedule a meeting with their counselor. Students are able to email their counselors with questions at any time as well. During this season of post high school planning, students are encouraged to take ownership of the process/steps toward their future, as they will be navigating life on their own soon:)
Transcripts: Students order transcripts via www.Parchment.com . This process was explained to seniors on Sept. 7th, and seniors created their Parchment accounts. Our Registrar will begin releasing transcripts from Parchment to colleges after Sept. 7th.

Juniors and seniors can sign up for meetings with college admissions representatives HERE. These meetings give students the most pertinent, up-to-date information about colleges and admissions information. The representatives who visit Adams are the representatives who review our students’ applications, so this is a unique opportunity that we’d like to see more students accessing!
AP TEST REGISTRATION:
The AP Registration sign-up process is live and will run through October 30th. Please see the attached flier and link below to sign up and pay for your student’s AP tests. Students must submit their proof of payment to Mrs. Snook in the counseling office by October 31st, 2023, or they will not have an exam ordered.
If you are scheduled to take a semester 2 only AP class next semester (i.e. AP Macroeconomics), registration for that exam will open during semester 2. Please hold off on registering for any semester 2 only test at this time. Please have your student reach out to their AP teacher with any questions.
WORK PERMITS
You can obtain a work permit in the counseling office as well as in the vestibule outside of the main office.
Make sure to choose the appropriate form (there is a form for UNDER 16 and a separate form for 16 & 17 years old).
Complete Section I, have your employer complete Section II, then bring it back to AHS to be completed. If a parent is bringing the form for their student, we will need a photo ID of the student in order to complete the work permit. Work permits are completed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.

Attendees with updates are: Mr. Cusumano, Counseling, Student Council and we will approve staff grants and talk about student leadership opportunities. It is a great place to meet parents who have been at Adams for at least a few years, providing valuable insight into the high school experience. After the meeting, Mr. Cusumano will provide a school tour for anyone interested.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
National Honor Society members are off to a busy start for the 2023-2024 school year. Students have been earning hours throughout the community by volunteering in RCS schools, doing litter pick-ups at parks and along trails, and working with the Sheriff’s PAL program. A new feature this year is Leadership Projects. Students are being asked to find a need in our community and design a project around it. This is a great opportunity for our members to learn new skills by planning and facilitating projects to benefit others. The deadline to have a proposal approved for the project is September 22nd. To ensure their projects are approved, members will need to have their proposals turned in no later than 7:30 AM September 11th to receive feedback and make revisions. Guidelines and additional tips are posted in Google Classroom and each student has a team leader who can help guide them if they have questions.

Dear Parents and Students of the Class of 2024,
All seniors for the class of 2024 will need to get their YEARBOOK PORTRAIT taken by Prestige Portraits. This service is provided free of charge and includes insertion in the yearbook and inclusion on the class composite.
If you missed the June and July dates at Adams, there is one more session for seniors at Adams High School on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM in the media center!
You will have to schedule your sitting for this date using the following link:

From the site, scroll to the bottom, and type in the state (Michigan), and the city (Rochester Hills) to begin the scheduling process. If you are unable to make this date, you will need schedule a personal sitting at a Prestige studio.

The special no-charge yearbook session will be available along with other sessions and upgrade options. If you do schedule your senior picture session, do so in the summer. All seniors should have their senior portraits taken by Saturday, November 11th. Once the photos are processed, students/parents must choose their preferred photo by November 25, 2023.
If a pose is not chosen by that date, the studio will choose a pose to be submitted. Prestige will then send the photo directly to Mr. Lovalvo.
Students and parents will still have the opportunity to go to their preferred choice of photographer, if it is not Prestige Portraits, for their other senior photos. While only the yearbook pose sitting fee is FREE OF CHARGE, Prestige will be offering significant discounts for other senior picture packages as well.
Please remember that this is a more formal section of the yearbook than the underclassmen photo section. Because of this, students need to dress up - shirt/tie/suit coat, collared shirt, dress, blouse, etc.
All clothing needs to meet these specifications and the RCS dress code policy in order to be included in the yearbook and on the class composite. If you (or your child) need help obtaining proper attire or need more information regarding attire, please contact Mr. Lovalvo at [email protected].

MICHIGAN SCHOOL MEALS PROGRAM
The Michigan School Meals program will offer universal free breakfast and lunch during the 2023-24 school year for all public school students in transitional kindergarten through high school and preschoolers in the Great Start Readiness Program. Families are not required to apply for free school meals. All students are automatically eligible every school day. Families in need are still encouraged to complete an application for benefits to qualify for additional community resources. The form used in previous years was the Free and Reduced Meal Price Application.
The new form is the Application for Summer EBT and Education Benefits for Michigan School Meals Program, which may entitle students to benefits, discounts and waivers including:

The District Chromebook Troubleshooting website is now live (See below). It has the most common problems that students are experiencing and how they can try to fix them. We are hoping that this will get students back to work a little quicker.
PLEASE NOTE: We have taken down the RCS Tech Support Ticket site. If a student needs help with their Chromebook, they should look at the troubleshooting site first. If they can’t fix it from the information on that page, they can make an appointment to swap out their Chromebook or they can call Technology Services (number is on the Troubleshooting page).

RAHCC RECRUITINGThe Rochester Auburn Hills Community Coalition (RAHCC) Youth Action Council is looking for middle and high school students to volunteer for community events all year long. Students will gain leadership skills, earn community service hours and help make a difference. The RAHCC supports mental health, builds awareness about substance misuse, and encourages healthy lifestyle choices through programming in the schools and throughout the community.
